“Fostering academic excellence, leadership, and character”

The Omega Nu Eta Sigma Alpha Honor Society is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, leadership, and character among Greater Miami homeschool high school students. By using our scholastic abilities in service to others, we strive to make a positive and lasting impact on communities across South Florida.

Our History

In 1997, homeschooling mother Joanne E. Juren, M.Ed., and her children were rejected by the National Honor Society due to their school choice. Refusing to let homeschoolers fall to the wayside of academic excellence and recognition, Joanne founded Eta Sigma Alpha in 1999. In 2011, a Miami-Dade chapter of Eta Sigma Alpha was founded and named Omega Nu.

“The first…”

Eta Sigma Alpha was the first honor society established exclusively for homeschooled students in Grades 9-12.

One homeschooling mother’s idea has grown into over 150 chapters.

“International”

Over the years, Eta Sigma Alpha has become an international organization with chapters growing beyond the United States and now into Mexico, Europe, and Africa.

“Our goal is to provide a platform where homeschooled scholars can stand tall and have their hard work recognized on the exact same footing as any traditional student.”
